Lars Peter Hansen serves as the director of the Becker Friedman Institute for Research in Economics at the University of Chicago, and he chairs the Academic Research Council for that institute.  Hansen is also co-principal investigator, along with Andrew Lo of MIT, on the Macro Financial Modeling Initiative (MFM) , a research group that works to develop macroeconomic models with enhanced linkages to financial markets. MFM aims to provide better policy tools for assessing systemic risk in the macroeconomy.
